A game we should of won. Sadly Tom Blair had a couple of glorious chances (header in 1st & through on goal only to step on the ball in the 2nd). Apart from that we looked reasonably comfortable, just comes back to the fact our striking options are very slim. The prize money would of been really useful to the club & the win would most certainly of lifted the camp.

Has Bearwish gone back to Eastleigh? Injured. He was there today watching from the sidelines. At least good to see injured players travel as they are part of the squad.

It's the commercial department I feel sorry for. How hard they have to work to raise £3000. How much more easily the players should have done so.

It really does feel like 3 grand just thrown away. Perhaps the club could sell Tom Blair for 3 grand to make up the loss he cost us from his easy misses on Saturday.

And presumably Weale too, given that he was at fault for the goal? Anyway, doesn't matter... would have been away at Truro in the next round so probably dodged a bullet!

Can't comment on the performance, but it is depressing to lose out on the money. I can't remember the last time we won a game in the FA Cup? Lost 3-0 to Banbury last season, lost against Cirencester in a replay the season before (we were 1-0 and AWH gave away a stupid penalty), was the season before that the home game against Bristol under Kemp, or was that the Trophy?
Portchester have been drawn away against Truro, would have been a tough game for us.

I realise tsof will have had his tongue in his cheek when he said losing to Portchester didn't matter because we dodged a bullet by not having to play Truro.
Sadly though, it really does matter because if we are to get a striker we want we need cash to back up the acquisition. That £3000 would have gone a long way towards it - whatever might have happened in Truro. A striker that would have meant Tom Blair would no longer need to play out of position. It's not fair to lump blame on Tom who was doing the team a big favour by playing as a striker.
The problem is that the pre-season player signing was all wrong with far to many promising, but not quite ready midfielders coupled with players being played out of position and with playing tactics that would need Hercule Poirot to work out. These are not Tom's fault!

Even without a recognised centre forward though, I still would've expected us to beat a side like from 2 leagues below like Portchester, with all due respect to them. And it's not as if we were unable to create chances, we had numerous attempts to win the game at 0-0 but lacked any composure of confidence. If we had got 1 i felt we would have had the tie sewn up. But yes, I totally agree that the £3,000 would've been so important. Even if we didn't progress past Truro that money would make a huge difference. Lets hope the funds are still in place to bring in Gillespie on loan. Also when is Phil Ormrod back?
