I thought that was an absolutely awful interview. If that's how inspiring he is in the dressing room then I think there are some dark days ahead.

I can't see anything wrong with this interview, possibly too much information about player acquisitions. Lets not attack the bloke until he has had a decent chance to shape the team how he wants it, and for me that is at least until the end of the season. He has the experience and success with other teams so I don't see why he cant replicate it here.

Sorry Powys but for the life of me I cannot recall any manager slating off the players he may of substituted publicly like our manager has in the press today, let's face it, if any of us were one of those taking off on Saturday, then read what the manager has to say about your performance in the press, well I for one would be looking for a transfer as those comments would leave me feeling empty. Oh and the elephant in the room is, Powys, are you Rob? if so welcome back mat e plus :- I have had a good look at the position opportunities of the camera so that issue of that bleeding post can be a past problem. Top right hand side of the old directors box I reckon would be ideal, after all the club is now a community set up so no need for hung up directors moaning that a person is within their precious area Oh & "come on New England"

I also thought Laird's comments in the Echo were strange. But are they so bad? For years, we've had managers who have wrapped players in cotton wool. Perhaps Laird is a tough love manager?
Just a question - was Neil Martin at Weymouth when Laird was?

They are bad not strange. You can be a tough love manager where it counts - not in the press! His "don't blame me, blame the players and the previous Manager" excuses will wear thin pretty quickly and by then he will have lost the dressing room (if he hasn't already).

You really don't like Laird do you Southernwatcher? For me, the jury's still out - it sort of has to be given that he's still so new in post. My guess is that he's not so bothered about losing the dressing room - some players have been responsible for making too many individual mistakes this season (and last) and they're being given a very clear message - shape up or I'll get somebody else in. Laird can only really be judged once he has the players on board that he wants. To my mind, he's being a bit too radical in his changes (another three new players this week according to the Echo interview) but, if that's what he feels is required rather than keeping what he has, then it's his call... Tom's post elsewhere is relevant here as well - would be very good Southernwatcher if you were able to give other users of this board an indication as to who you actually are.. Send me a PM if you can't announce it publically.. Sean

I have to agree with Sean in that Craig Laird needs time to build the team how he wants it and to then judge him after that.
I admired Laird for the triple substitution on Saturday, Dillon, Martin and Franklyn were not playing well and the team looked better for making these changes. I think Neil Martin may have been at Weymouth when Laird was Assistant Manager so he probably already has a view on him. Interestingly in the first half, Jon Vance was covering Neil Martin, if he pushed forward.
Jon Vance gave a good performance, he was shouting instructions to people, getting stuck in and showing real leadership in midfield. Whilst its a shame that Louis Morgan has left, I think Jon will be able to do a job and certainly looks a lot fitter.
I listened to the Solent interview and I thought Laird came across well. There are a few players in the first team who in my opinion have not looked committed for some time and actually I would welcome a shake up. Sadly where we are the wrong end of the table, we need some players who will come in and battle and some of the established players don't look up for the fight. Jon Vance looks like one of those and it looks like Gary Bowles is coming back, who certainly knows how to battle.
