I recently attended an "owners" meeting and was shocked at how few of us fans had joined.
In polite words, if you are not a member please could anyone explain why?
The price of £30 is less than a night out, less than 1 pound a week, well below half of one month of Sky.
if you want your say for this club that we all want to survive and move up. Please join!

Hi Chris,
I feel the need to respond to your first ever post on this forum - and I do so as a member!!
I'd be really interested to know what 'say for this club' you think that your membership has given you. I'll be honest - I actually feel like I have less of a say now than in the years before community ownership. What decisions have you been able to help the club make? Aside from the 'owners' meetings and some newsletters (which by and large should be communicated to all fans and not just members) what has your £30 achieved for you?
To my mind, somebody could probably benefit the club a whole lot more by playing the Dorchester lottery - and it upsets me to say that.

Sean, You are correct in your comment about voting. I think the CBS is still in its early days so its going to be a learning curve for us all as to how it could best work. I would be interested to know how you had a say in the club prior to it becoming a CBS. If the CBS had 200 members and just 100 of them turned up to meetings, the board could have a much better idea of the feelings of the members and the members could get a better idea of the work that the board and other members are putting in to help the club. Of course, if the board wasn't moving in the direction that the members wanted then new people can be voted on to that board. I believe the board is coping in a difficult situation and I'm grateful for the financial contributions that individual board members make to keep us going. The club is in a difficult situation and the more members, the more ideas of how the club can improve its situation. Another 100 members would give the club another £3000 and we'd all be sharing a little bit of the cost of running the club. The bar takings on a club meeting night would also be a nice boost too And finally, it wasn't my first post. I'm not saying I've posted a lot. I used to be BoroMagpie and then PowysMagpie; someone commented on people hiding behind anonymous names hence the change to Chris!

Hi Chris, for what's it's worth, here are my reasons for not renewing my CBS membership.
Have now sat in front of the screen for a while wondering how to explain my own personal journey from a "Trust" member to a now non CBS member, so here are my own personal views and I am sorry if it fecks anyone off and if any of my thoughts are actually incorrect, then please see me tomorrow.
a) The set up of this CBS was not what I thought was the original Trust ideas of fan ownership, it seemed to me as though the trust sold out to Shaun & Adam to make it a easier transaction takeover by name
b) Was extremely felt let down by the monies I thought the CBS club had earned for the sell of Jonah only to see that his income was passed on to directors, to pay off loans. Now while most of you will see this as business sense, I posted before that I felt it unfairly that shareholders were asked to give up their shares so as the CBS could go ahead, while at no time, was it explained that "old" debts would be written off, instead these debts would be honoured as the income came in and in my mind, this income included my £30 so if the Brighton money had not occurred, how many years would our £30, go to old debts? why would I want to pay £30 just to see someone from pre CBS take this money instead of paying a player or the bar staff?
c) I know and understand that it was a while ago that the old forum was shut down, yet I still feel it was very immature for the way/reasons of the person who ran that forum to close it down and as this person was very prominent in the set up of the trust and the CBS, I found it hard to understand that while all views of fans at the time of was welcomed on the forum, mostly because the idea of a trust owned club at the time, seemed a far better option than Eddie Mitchell Though once one or two awkward questions regarding the CBS, started appearing on the forum, it seemed the easy way out was just to close the aforementioned site or for posters to "sue"
d) Finally and I have posted this before, whatever happened to the fans forums, many in the old trust were always calling out for these nights so as one could ask questions to the owner & manager and in all fairness, Shaun, Chris and even Eddie would hold such events, though now the club is a CBS, it seems as though as a non CBS fan, your awkward questions to the board or the manager are not welcomed. Animal farm springs to mind
There Chris, I hope that helps as to why this one person has not renewed their CBS membership, it would be interesting to see how many others reply to your interesting thread
Up the Maggies
ps :-now wait for upteem edits 😂

Cheers to samusarum for your reply, first of all I would hate it if folks think I am working somehow against this club, as I also love it and yes I would like to see a fans forum and if I am not at work on the day, then of course I will attend, what I am not happy with at the moment and please forgive me if I am wrong, is the impression I get is that if one is not a CBS member, then one has not got the intrest of DTFC in their heart, well, if that is the the case then that's complete bollox

Very simple reason why I have never joined can't afford it!, Also my contact with the club over concession rates for unwaged/unemployed persons has been very negative!

I became a CBS member in its first year and had every intention, then, of continuing to be in it for the long haul.
What changed my mind and has stopped me from renewing since was the response of Dave Ring to some challenging but perfectly reasonable questioning from Sean Tizzard about the running of the club. I felt his written forum responses were disrespectful and the shutting down of the fans forum petulant to say the least.
In my mind these actions contradicted the central principles of a community club and, whilst I will remain a loyal supporter, I cannot sign up to a CBS that presents this form up contempt for those fellow supporters who are the key constituents of the organisation.

Dave's never referred to it since but he's been civil and chatty when we've met at games. I don't think it was a clever thing to do but I'd really hate to think that the row we had on here is stopping people from becoming members. I guess we're all learning what a community club can be and mistakes will be made on the way. A bit of tension from time to time is no bad thing if progress is made as a result. In truth, it's probably better if a forum such as this is moderated by fans rather than being a club responsibility. Sean

Thanks Sean.
I'm glad your relations with Dave are cordial. I am aware how hard he works for the club and we should all be grateful for that. Without people like him there may be no club at all now.
My point is that you would expect the views of all fans would be heard and considered respectively if a CBS is to function successfully. The CBS should be inclusive and informative. At present I'm not sure it meets either of these criteria and I'm not convinced that, under these circumstances, it is worth me re-joining.
