Decent track record as a coach and assistant manager at Yeovil during their rise up the leagues - number two to David Webb, Colin Addison, Gary Johnson and Russell Slade. Was Garry Hill's #2 at Woking for 6 years, inc when they won the Conf South. Will be really interesting to see who he brings in as his staff. Knows the club and town well as I'm pretty sure he was involved in launching the football course at Kingston Mauward a few years back where he produced first-team product Dan Floyd. He'll be hoping to improve on that contribution to DTFC I'm sure. Welcome Steve EDIT: Feedback on Woking's forum. www.cardsboard.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5731

Let's not underestimate the enormity of the job in hand for Thommo..
On paper, this looks like a very good appointment - but then I think we were all happy about Laird's appointment and look where that got us!!
Steve's certainly got the experience and probably the contacts to do a fine job for us. Onwards and upwards - fair play to the Board for pulling this one out of the bag.

When I first heard he was manager I was content rather than pleased or disappointed. I guessed he had applied as during the 2nd half of the Frome match I went to sit in the stand and noticed he was there taking notes.
However the more I think about it I'm really pleased and think it's a good appointment. I'm sure the board would have have gaged views from Chris Weale / Critts as both would have been under him at Yeovil. He sounds like he wants this I really liked his comments about still plenty of the season I took it as meaning to achieve things realistic of course. It would have been easier to down play us and mention about staying up.
My thoughts on the squad is well documented be interesting if he has a few lined up. Dunstable and then Hereford away so hopefully a chance to get a good start and Hereford will be a real test.

Impressive appointment & with a higher pedigree than I was expecting. Be interesting to see how he turns things around.

Quite pleased really, localish but with credible non league pedigree and contacts. To echo a previous comment, better than I had hoped.

Loved by both Woking and Yeovil fans.
I'm hoping that in a few years time we're as warm towards him as their fans are. This might be the turning point we need..

Welcome Thommo. Hearing good things about on the social medias from Woking and Yeovil fans plus people who've been coached under him. Hopefully his experience and contacts can turn around the fortunes of this great club on the pitch. Be interesting to see who his backroom staff will be. UTM

Nope, Steve was still at Wycombe Wanderers then, under Martin O'Neill.

I know Steve personally, I think it's a great appointment for you, and for him. He is a football man through and through, knows the game inside out, and is a very good and knowledgeable coach. He's a real nice bloke, but also has a temper!. The hairdryer will come out if and when needed, the players will know in no uncertain terms what's wanted from them!. He is on a totally different level to Craig Laird, ST has played at a very good level, I remember watching him for Bristol City 35 years ago, he knows what's needed, whether he's got the players at your club I don't know, but he will get you organised that's for sure. Good luck to him and Dorchester for the rest of the season.

Good luck to him and Dorchester for the rest of the season. Sounds like exactly what we need, someone to get the players fit and organised. We need a more professional approach, especially after Craig. As I have said in previous posts, I think we have the nucleus of a decent team, capable of finishing top half, but they were so disorganised under Craig. I hadn't really heard of him before the appointment, but the reaction on social media in the non-league circles has been very positive, he certainly seems popular and well liked. Actually quite excited about this appointment, not felt like this since Jem was appointed. Link below is a brief mention, but an example of where the clubs appointment is popping up: southwestsportsnews.com/football/news/3771-swfootball-shorts-thursday-september-21-2017
