Just read Leigh’s comment after the game vs Bristol City. Said ball retention could have been better. Now I haven’t been able to make any games yet so can’t comment really on how we look but given this has been an issue does anyone think the class in opponent was the reason or are we just wasteful in possession? Please no one take this as negative, as I say I’ve not seen any of the new boys yet to cast judgement but am hoping history isn’t repeating itself.

Agree with. The above comment so far as fitness and work rate goes its good to watch a squad that knows what the management want from them. A squad a lot fitter and sharper can only get better as the friendlies come thick and fast

Please no one take this as negative, as I say I’ve not seen any of the new boys yet to cast judgement but am hoping history isn’t repeating itself. This isn’t history repeating its self. Leigh has ripped the squad up it’s evident the moment you walk in. There is good height all over the pitch the volume is up the intensity is there and that’s just from walking in. I can’t emphasise that enough I get people are hurt from years of utter tripe and are sceptical. I’m genuinely optimistic more so than I ever have for a long time the squad as I’ve said on a previous thread is only 3/4 short loan market still to open. Personally speaking I think we lack somebody who can offer that bit of magic in tight games thinking a Cam Murray etc that type however that could be Ngoy. I thought first half Friday was very good I liked the shape Frankie and Billy tenacious in the tackle Sa getting in behind. My only issue was how easy 1 ball over the top caught us, though the desire to get back was evident. Energy all over the park when we had the ball we wanted to get on the front foot always looking forward. Second half well it was your typical pre season game lots of changes and dis jointed. UTM

Is Blair injured?

Think he’s got a slight knock, apparently a few of the team does. Leigh mentioned in an interview with the Echo that it could be to do with the pitch.

Found a photo that does appear to be young Mr Blair playing for Yeovil.

Why tell us it was a back issue though? Surely no one is going to begrudge Blair the opportunity of playing at a higher level? If he is to go I’d of course be gutted but he’s a young lad who wants to progress his football.
Other explanation is he told the club he could play so he could go have a trial for Yeovil? This is just guess work though.

By all accounts it’s been rumoured Yeovil are strapped for cash like most clubs. As Blair is on a contract Dorch F.C. do not hold your breathe for a transfer fee if he is on his way out the club.

This is just so dubious all around.. A player who is contracted to a team should NOT be playing trial games for another team END OF. The team that he's playing trial games for could be in serious, serious trouble if they are breaking terms of contracts - watch out Yeovil. So Tom must have got permission from our club to play in this game - or the terms of his contract must be relaxed in this sense. Either way for our club to say that he's currently unavailable with a bad back is really bad form.. Just when I thought things were improving, we get messed around like this... Bad.....

I would imagine that somewhere in his contract it will say if there is interest from a higher level he can look into it.

I would imagine that somewhere in his contract it will say if there is interest from a higher level he can look into it. Would you imagine that it also says in his contract that the club can misinform the supporters and say he's got a slight knock if there is that interest from a higher level rather than just being honest with its members?

Doubt it very much! I agree Sean it’s not really on, especially when you see the tweet I linked above & see Tom has liked it. Like I said originally do I begrudge Tom the opportunity of going to a club like Yeovil, no I don’t. Do I like the way it’s been handled, not one bit!

Hopefully as Tom is a young lad maybe he did have a bad back for Friday night's match yet come Saturday he's feeling hunky dory again, so no need to worry that the club is trying to put one over their supporters
I bloody well hope so

Never bite the hand that feeds you . As in above post the supporters dug deep to provide the club with 5 k to help the club financially over the lockdown period.it beggars belief that the board has hoodwinked the supporters who love the club. As been said recently all is not well at boardroom level and as soon as it’s made clear to those supporters who feed the club finaciay be told maybe you wlll be trusted and not hide behind smoke glass windows The. T r u t h needs to be told and sooner than later

Contracted players are allowed to go on trial to another club and play in non-competitive games, this has been the case for several of our players over the years.
The injury is an odd one but I wouldn't read too much into it, there could be a number of explanations and I am confident the board would always act in the best interests of the club. There are a couple of very experienced Directors on the board who have dealt with a several 'big' transfers over the years.
Regarding openness, the Weymouth Chairman gave a very good (albeit long) interview that has really got their supporters upbeat and even more positive. It sounds like their new managers first game will be against us.
Back to our season, the squad is looking good from the games I've seen, I would like to see a couple of trialists sign on and see the new keeper in action (for us). We are looking like a bigger stronger team, with maybe a couple of loanees (from Weymouth?) and the backup of the U23s (who have a couple of cracking players) we should be alright.

Steven - Contracted players can seek permission to play in trial games at other clubs - this is very different to being 'allowed' to play in trial games without seeking permission...
If Tom sought permission from the club and the club agreed to it and then told the fans that he had a back injury, it's simply bad form and it does nothing to build trust.
Meanwhile, almost a week on and we await any sort of explanation....
I share your optimism about the forthcoming season but it's still right to ask these questions..

Tom Blair well documented to be on a contract at Dorch .whilst out haveing trials with another club and the unfortunate happens and has a bad injury who is responsible For his wages ? Non league players are rarely paid for more than 40 weeks so it’s quite possible that contracted players aren’t yet being paid. I know that it was reported that Blair had signed a contract but you do wonder what his actual status is at DTFC There isn’t anything unusual for a player to have a trial with another club whilst on a contract elsewhere but this does seem to be a bit of an extended contract. Everything I hear about Yeovil is that they are broke and big time broke so I just can’t see them paying a fee so the conspiracy theories will just gain momentum till someone comes out and tells it as it is. Ian Whites interview was mentioned earlier in this thread , Yes it was long winded. But it was open , honest and above all was in his own words not edited on a website or a journalist putting a spin on things. Yours is a community club who upon launch talked about openness & transparency yet your PR reminds me so much of WFCs in a different era and whilst the comments on here are from just a narrow cross section of your support if the gaps aren’t filled by club generated information then then others will gladly take the opportunity to fill the gaps with rumours, mis information and with that is an awful lot of mischief making. Ok it’s difficult times and no doubt your directors have their work cut out but be under no illusions if a football club loses its goodwill it will take hellava lot more work to recover the position.

Very true Leo.
I sent a E-mail to the club on Thursday with the following content:-
Good morning,
I hope you’re well.
It’s come to my attention that one of our contracted players played in a pre-season friendly game for Yeovil on Saturday after club supporters were told by the club that the player couldn’t play in our Friday night fixture because he had a ‘bad back’.
In these tough times, openness and honesty is surely paramount to ensure a good relationship between the club, its members, corporate supporters and supporters.
Things have seemed good this pre-season with Leigh and Robbie’s signings looking like they’ll fare better than last year.
In my opinion, a quick statement on the above from the club could help to quash the inevitable rumour-mongering and would undoubtedly help to connect club members to the club more.
All best, Sean
Slightly disappointed that I've not even had an acknowledgement to that mail. And the issue itself still rumbles.

Answers on a post card please. It may be quicker than the ignorance of the chairman / board to give an indication. Of where the lad will be playing

Yep - and I've had an E-mail response to my E-mail with some extra context.
It wasn't the club that said that Tom had a bad back, rather it was Neil at the Echo that made that up.
So - all's well that ends well. Tom stays with us, the club does care about the supporters and we can get back to blaming the Echo...
