Still 0-0 at the end of extra time and we then lost 11-10 (or 12-11 or thereabouts) on penalties.
I genuinely hate knocking my home-town team but I can't hold back after our performance tonight. It was abject, dire, disgraceful. You choose. Most of the team (except Oldring and Bassett) ought to be totally ashamed of themselves. And, what's more, the second half started with 9 of our starting XI from Saturday on the pitch. Worse still, Jem went off with a nasty looking foot/ankle injury. Why wasn't Nick Swann playing? One of the best young talents we've picked up in recent years along with Jonah and Tom Blair and he never seems to get any game time.
Hang your heads in shame.

I have to agree with ivanalevel in that Dorch were poor tonight and should hang their heads in shame.
Portland were well organised and every player knew their job in the team. Portland played some nice stuff and limited Dorch into playing long ball. It's really interesting in that Gary Bailey has virtually no playing budget yet he has moulded a good competitive team together.
Some questions/observations:
Why is Ben Wood being played at left back when he is a forward/striker?
Why did Jem play himself last night, when it would have been a good chance for him to watch and direct the team from the sidelines?
The team are so quiet, they do not seem to talk to each other on the pitch.
More shouting from the bench telling Mario where he needed to be on the pitch.

It's not a cup I mind losing in so no great anxiety from me..
Jordan Mulllis must be grateful that he didn't have another night like at Sakisbury where he picked the ball out of the net ten times!!! Oh wait, what's that?

Same as Sean, not hugely upset about going out but watching that performance last night did make me question why I didn't go home after work! I've read Jem's comments in the local & he's spot on, they wanted it more. They closed us down, had a couple of decent players but we just didn't really turn up. Yes we should of had a penalty but just like against Barnstable we shouldn't be in these positions.

Agreed - the cup is not important but the performance is. We had every first team player except Murphy and Smeaton available and playing a part in most of the game and we were clueless. No idea why Wood was playing at the back and Martin up front or why Jem was a central defender and Oldring was right back, at least for the first half. Also, whilst every Portland player knew their role and stuck to it, our lot seemed to be running around like headless chicken with no clear game plan. Very sorry to hear about Swann. I thought he looked to have great potential.

I guess that maybe Jem was using the game as an opportunity to road test certain players in certain positions in case we have to during the course of the season? No better game to experiment in that the DSC.

Must of missed something about Nick Swann leaving I saw that Jem said he had signed Dual registration with someone so he could go and get game time to build his fitness up certainly didn't realize he had left for good, shame really as i liked him also losing Ben Walker now looks like we are playing players out of position as right backs. Still as they say in Jem we trust.

Thought it was Owen Nicholson that had gone on dual registration with Hamworthy. Find it a bit frustrating, not knowing about departures or even injuries like Liam Sayers.

Thought it was a number of younger players that were dual signed to get game time. Not seen Sol lately either although maybe just me missing seeing him. I believe the reserves are home tuesday so may be able to get a look at who's playing also they are in cup action at Holt tomorrow i believe so hopefully someone will post the team .

Sol is currently on a school trip to India, I believe he is back soon. He's not been on the bench for the 1st team since the game after Salisbury I believe?

For those of you who don't know me, I used to stand on the terraces supporting Dorch and went on to play for the Reserves. I`m spending my Saturday afternoons managing Portland Uniteds Reserve side. Portland United are still an Amateur club, players are NOT PAID.... Budget is £0. This group of players have been together along time and the organisation in the side is superb, most weeks we play against Semi Pro teams and come out on top. Massive credit has to go to the manager and the players. I did come up to watch this game and was horrified by what Dorchester offered, a lot has changed around the club. Not all for the good! I still look for the results and hope Jem can turn it around.
